My beautiful wife, Bec and I made the move from the inner-north of Melbourne down to the coast in Barwon Heads. We are a massive cliche, but I’ll cop that. We have three little champies to keep us entertained (and sleep-deprived…) and they are an inspiration to me every day.

I grew up in Country Victoria and basically spent my entire childhood climbing things to jump off them into water. Now I’m learning how to surf, which involves me squeezing into the thickest wetsuit I can find, then driving out to 13th Beach on cold winter mornings, flailing around in the white-water without catching any waves, then dragging my cold, tired arse home for a cuppa.

“Is this really the right time for a career-change?” My Mum was a little concerned that with my wife 3-months pregnant with our second little champy, perhaps leaving the secure corporate world for a career in photography might be a little rash. The clincher was when I was sitting at my cubicle at work, and seeing a photographer walk in with his gear to take some portraits I thought to myself "I want that job".

Unfortunately for Mum, I’ve never been one to avoid risks, so I took the plunge (with the rock-solid support of my amazing wife).

That was over five years ago, and I have never regretted it.

I remember at 9, heading off with my parents and two sisters in a 4WD and campervan to hit the road up to Alice Springs and Uluru. I was probably a pretty annoying kid, so I was handed the family camera to document the trip, and to keep me busy. Looking back on those images (out of focus, poorly framed, random finger in front of lens) I remember feeling the responsibility of being the one that was recording this trip - it was up to me to choose what was significant, what was worth a photo.

I’ve been running my business full time since 2015. One of my proudest achievements is to be able to pay the rent while doing something I love.

At weddings I get to meet rad couples, on the best day of their lives, when they are at an emotional peak and the drama is tangible and its glorious that I get to take photos of the magic all around me, and I’m grateful to my couples every day for that.

In my commercial work, I get to help brands throughout Victoria create imagery with impact and heart, from Architectural projects, restaurants, travel and portraits. Get in touch if that’s what you are after.
